Tencent Cloud opened its first Malaysian Cloud Region in Johor with three availability zones, the company said on Wednesday.
Market Impact
The new facility links to Tencent Cloud International’s global network of 66 zones across 23 regions, including Singapore, Indonesia and Thailand. “Malaysia remains a key market in our regional growth strategy,” said Bluefin Jiannan Zhao, Tencent Cloud’s Asia-Pacific vice-president and managing director, at the Tencent Cloud C-Suite Dialogue 2026 in Kuala Lumpur.
The Johor site will host production-ready AI tools such as WorkBuddy, an agentic workspace for market research and data analysis, and TokenHub, a Model-as-a-Service platform for managing multiple large language models. Tencent also made its Hy3 model freely accessible via WorkBuddy until 31 August 2026.
Locally, Tencent Cloud named Boost and Genting Plantations Group as new partners integrating AI agent solutions. Existing clients include Ryt Bank for conversational banking and YTL Communications for eKYC verification. Tencent Cloud and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia will train more than 1,000 AI professionals through hackathons, train-the-trainer programmes and official certifications.
“This partnership bridges academic learning with the actual tools used by industry,” said Universiti Teknologi Malaysia vice-chancellor Professor Ts. Dr. Mohd Shafry bin Mohd Rahim. The programme equips students and educators with practical skills to use Tencent’s AI stack, including WorkBuddy and Tencent Design Miora, to tackle Malaysian use cases.
