**Malaysia Strengthens Smallholder Palm Oil Sustainability Program in Negeri Sembilan**

Market Impact

**KUALA LUMPUR, July 17, 2026** – Malaysia’s smallholder palm oil farmers remain a key pillar in sustaining the nation’s palm oil industry through the adoption of Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) and responsible farm management to preserve the environment and ensure sustainable production.

The Ministry of Plantation and Commodities (KPK) and its agency, the Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB), are reinforcing this commitment through training, extension services, and smallholder empowerment programs nationwide. MPOB also identifies smallholders in need of disease control assistance, particularly through the Smallholder Ganoderma Disease Control Scheme (SKGPK).

Speaking at the Malaysian Sustainable Palm Oil (MSPO) Smallholder Strengthening Program in Tampin, Negeri Sembilan, Plantation and Commodities Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Noraini Ahmad said the SKGPK initiative supports smallholders replanting under the Smallholder Palm Oil Replanting Incentive Scheme (TSPKS 2.0) by ensuring newly planted trees are free from Ganoderma infection risks.

“Sustainable palm oil development must begin with high-quality, disease-free planting materials,” she said. “Replanted palms must meet global sustainability standards and use certified planting materials from nurseries adhering to the Code of Good Nursery Practice (CoPN) to ensure quality and disease-free seedlings that safeguard productivity and income.”

MPOB Deputy Director-General (Services) Dr. Zaki Aman said over 197,000 independent smallholders have obtained MSPO certification through 162 Sustainable Palm Oil Clusters (SPOC) nationwide as of May 31, 2026.

“As an agency under KPK, MPOB provides extension services to all independent smallholders through its nationwide Palm Oil Advisory and Extension Offices (TUNAS),” he said. “TUNAS officers not only help smallholders improve productivity and adopt good agricultural practices but also guide them in obtaining MSPO certification, a key requirement for international market access.”

He added that MPOB officers also assist in recording geospatial data and mapping information for each smallholder’s plantation, ensuring compliance with sustainability requirements and anti-deforestation regulations while enhancing Malaysia’s global competitiveness.

The MSPO Smallholder Strengthening Program in Tampin reflects KPK’s ongoing efforts to raise awareness and strengthen the implementation of good agricultural practices among smallholders, supporting the country’s sustainable palm oil industry agenda.
