KUALA LUMPUR, 27 JULY 2026 —
Kajang — The German-Malaysian Institute (GMI) signed separate cooperation agreements on Monday with Invest Melaka Berhad, Lianjia Technology (Suzhou) Co. Ltd and Linka Tech (Melaka) Sdn Bhd to place 300 students and 120 professionals into internships, upskilling and reskilling programmes by December 2027.
Market Impact
GMI chief executive Datuk Dr Wahid bin Omar said the pacts would create structured pathways for GMI’s diploma and advanced diploma students to enter internships and graduate roles in smart manufacturing and Industry 4.0, while offering short courses in robotics, data analytics and mechatronics to working adults. “These partnerships give students real-world exposure and give employers a direct talent pipeline,” he told reporters after the ceremony.
The agreements envisage at least 150 placements with Linka Tech (Melaka) Sdn Bhd within 12 months, with priority roles in automation and process control, according to Ms Nurmaisarah Yusof, HR executive at Linka Tech. Lianjia Technology (Suzhou) Co. Ltd plans to take 90 interns for precision assembly and quality inspection, said Mr Li Gong, vice general manager.
Invest Melaka Berhad will support travel and living subsidies so that rural students from Melaka can participate, added Datuk Ginie Lim, its CEO.
GMI will now draft implementation plans, including curriculum adjustments and mentor assignments, and aims to raise an initial RM1.8 million from state agencies and industry partners to fund stipends and equipment upgrades by October 2026.
