SD Guthrie Berhad reported a net profit of RM1.547 billion for the six months ended 30 June 2026, a 44% jump from RM1.072 billion in the same period last year.

Market Impact

Revenue fell 4% to RM9.633 billion from RM9.986 billion, but higher margins in the Downstream and Industrial Development segments lifted earnings. The Group’s net profit for the second quarter alone rose 95% year-on-year to RM987 million, up from RM505 million in Q2 FY2025.

The Industrial Development unit delivered RM529 million in profit before interest and tax (PBIT) in Q2 FY2026, while the Downstream unit—SD Guthrie International (SDGI)—recorded RM136 million in PBIT, an 8% increase. The Upstream segment’s PBIT slipped 5% to RM648 million despite firmer crude palm oil and palm kernel prices, which averaged RM4,283 per tonne and RM3,436 per tonne respectively, versus RM4,146 per tonne and RM3,247 per tonne a year earlier.

Tan Sri Dr Nik Norzrul Thani Nik Hassan Thani, chairman, said disciplined execution under new leadership had delivered “encouraging results” despite global economic and geopolitical headwinds. “The ability to maintain the growth momentum will enable Guthrie to deliver the right results and value to shareholders,” he said.

Mohd Haris Mohd Arshad, president and group chief executive, said the Group’s transformation beyond plantations was gaining traction. “The continued strong earnings contribution underscores progress toward a more diversified and future-ready organisation,” he said. “We are strengthening earnings resilience, creating new growth engines and positioning Guthrie for sustainable long-term value creation.”

Key segment performance in Q2 FY2026 versus Q2 FY2025 showed PBIT up 63% to RM1.313 billion from RM804 million, while net profit more than doubled to RM987 million. Revenue dipped 4% to RM4.943 billion. First-half figures followed the same trend: PBIT rose 31% to RM2.120 billion on revenue of RM9.633 billion, 4% lower than the prior year.

Operational metrics showed flat fresh fruit bunch (FFB) production of 2.29 million tonnes in Q2, unchanged from Q2 FY2025, and a marginal dip in oil extraction rate to 21.18% from 21.19%. For the first half, FFB production fell 2% to 4.20 million tonnes and the oil extraction rate edged up to 21.27% from 21.18%.

Outlook for FY2026 points to firmer CPO prices driven by tightening global supply and resilient demand. Analysts expect El Niño to tighten supply later this year, while Indonesia’s B50 biodiesel mandate and firmer crude oil prices support demand. Guthrie’s Upstream unit will focus on operational excellence and climate risk management, Downstream on portfolio balance and cost competitiveness, and Industrial Development on earnings resilience. Renewable Energy remains a long-term growth pillar.

The Group maintained its positive stance on FY2026, citing favourable market dynamics, operational resilience and strong execution in Industrial Development.
