Two foreigners died when a Proton X70 sport utility vehicle crashed during a police chase in Gua Musang today.

Market Impact

Superintendent Sik Choon Foo, Gua Musang district police chief, said officers first spotted the X70 driving suspiciously before it reversed and headed toward Gua Musang town. Police followed to conduct a check.

When the vehicle reached Kilometer 16 of Jalan Gua Musang-Kuala Lipis near Bukit Lanjut, it lost control, crossed into oncoming traffic and struck the rear side of a Toyota Hilux pick-up. The X70 then veered off the road and hit a lamp post.

Sik said one foreign man died at the scene and another succumbed to injuries at Gua Musang Hospital. The X70 driver suffered serious head injuries and remains in hospital while police trace the identities of the other occupants.

The incident is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, Section 186 of the Penal Code, and Sections 55E and 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.
