Pertamina Redirects Fuel Supply to Flores After Earthquake Damage

Market Impact

KUPANG, Aug 19 (Reuters) - PT Pertamina Patra Niaga Regional Jawa Timur, Bali dan Nusa Tenggara (Jatimbalinus) has redirected fuel supplies to Flores, Nusa Tenggara Timur, by dispatching 16 tanker trucks from Bima, West Nusa Tenggara, following earthquake damage to the Reo fuel terminal.

The 16 tankers arrived in Labuan Bajo, West Manggarai, to supply fuel from terminals in Flores that can still receive shipments, said Ahad Rahedi, Area Manager for Communication, Relations & CSR at Pertamina Patra Niaga Jatimbalinus, on Wednesday.

The move aims to ensure fuel availability in northern Flores after the Reo fuel terminal (TBBM Reo) was damaged by an earthquake centered in Mbay, Nagekeo Regency, on Aug 15, 2026. Pertamina has temporarily halted operations at TBBM Reo while assessing the dock's structural integrity.

Pertamina is now utilizing other operational terminals, including Larantuka, Maumere and Ende, to distribute fuel via the 16 tankers. These vehicles will supply fuel, including aviation turbine fuel (Avtur), to Labuan Bajo and surrounding areas through the Bima terminal.

Previously, Pertamina had sent 11 tankers from Bima via ferry to Labuan Bajo and other parts of Flores. However, ferry capacity limited the number of trips due to tanker sizes ranging from 8 to 16 kilolitres. The new fleet of 15-kilolitre tankers allows for more efficient distribution.

Pertamina assured continued fuel availability for affected communities until TBBM Reo resumes operations. Further updates on supply adjustments will be provided as assessments progress.
