KUALA LUMPUR (July 28) — Penang Institute will host the third edition of Read Japan Day on August 14, 2026, offering free public access to its expanding Japanese studies collection. The event is part of the Read Japan Project 2025, an international book donation initiative supported by The Tokyo Foundation and The Nippon Foundation, in collaboration with the Consulate-General of Japan in Penang.

The monthly open day provides free access to English-language books covering Japanese history, literature, arts, society, culture, politics, economics, business, and international relations. The inaugural session will focus on manga, literature, and the arts, while the third edition will explore ancient Japanese society and culture, featuring titles such as Bushido: The Soul of Japan and Edo Culture: Daily Life and Diversions in Urban Japan, 1600–1868.

Penang Institute, a recipient of the Read Japan Project 2025 book donation, will host the event at its Ground Floor, South Wing from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Admission is free, and no prior registration is required. Visitors are advised to park in designated lots and refrain from bringing food or drinks into the venue, as books are for on-site browsing only.

The initiative aims to foster greater understanding of Japan through literature and cultural exchange. Further details on future sessions will be announced by Penang Institute.
