KUALA LUMPUR, 21 JULY 2026 —
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 22 (Bernama) -- The AirAsia Travel Fair (AATF) 2025 is expected to draw approximately 15,000 visitors, a significant increase of 5,000 from its last pre-pandemic edition in 2019. This surge in expected attendance underscores the growing demand for travel and tourism in Malaysia, as the airline revives its signature travel fair series with plans to make next year's showcase the largest in the country.
Market Impact
The AirAsia Travel Fair has a history of promoting domestic and international tourism in Malaysia, with previous editions held across key cities in the country. The fair brings together travelers, travel agents, tourism boards, and industry partners under one roof, demonstrating Kuala Lumpur's growing stature as a major travel hub. With extensive connectivity to domestic and international destinations, the fair supports Malaysia's tourism sector, which is gearing up for Visit Malaysia Year (VMY) 2026. AirAsia group chief commercial officer Amanda Woo stated that the airline will also host travel fairs in other countries, including the Philippines, Vietnam, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan, to support VMY 2026.
This year's edition of the AirAsia Travel Fair, held from Aug 22 to 24 at Pavilion Bukit Jalil, features 213 booths and about 1,000 travel packages curated by leading local agents. Organizers are optimistic about doubling sales compared to previous events, where daily ticket sales reached up to 10,000. Woo expressed plans to invite other airlines, hotels, and tourism partners to participate in the travel fair, with international carriers such as Air Arabia and Emirates already on board. The airline aims to expand participation next year, positioning itself as a travel company rather than just an airline. The travel fair is particularly significant this year, as it introduces routes that go beyond Asia, with Malaysia increasingly viewed as a hub for travelers to explore the wider Asian region.
The AirAsia Travel Fair is expected to have a positive impact on the Malaysian market, particularly the tourism sector. With the government's introduction of a visa-free policy, tourist arrivals from China and India have increased by over 30%. The destinations featured in the exhibition are key source markets for Malaysia, with impressive tourist arrivals from ASEAN and coastal countries. Tourism Malaysia director-general Datuk Manoharan Periasamy stated that the travel fair is a step taken by AirAsia to further promote domestic and international tourism, which will help Tourism Malaysia achieve its goal of attracting 43 million tourists to Malaysia. As of June 2025, more than 25 million domestic and international tourists have visited Malaysia, and the travel fair is expected to encourage and help reach the target of 43 million visitors in 2025.
In terms of sector-specifics, the AirAsia Travel Fair will feature a wide range of travel packages and destinations, catering to the diverse needs of travelers. With the participation of leading local agents and international carriers, the fair is expected to provide a one-stop platform for travelers to plan their trips. The airline's plans to expand participation next year and position itself as a travel company are expected to further enhance the travel experience for tourists. Details on the specific travel packages and destinations featured in the fair are available at the event, which will be held at Pavilion Bukit Jalil from Aug 22 to 24.
Looking ahead, the AirAsia Travel Fair is expected to play a significant role in promoting tourism in Malaysia, particularly with the upcoming Visit Malaysia Year 2026. With the airline's plans to host travel fairs in other countries and expand participation, the event is expected to have a positive impact on the tourism sector. As the travel fair continues to grow and evolve, it is likely to remain a key platform for travelers, travel agents, and industry partners to come together and promote domestic and international tourism in Malaysia. The success of the AirAsia Travel Fair will be closely watched, as it has the potential to contribute significantly to the country's tourism sector and economy.
