Jaecoo J5 EV lands in Malaysia on 2 September with estimated RM125,000 price tag

MALAYSIA, 24 AUGUST 2026 —

Omoda Jaecoo Malaysia confirmed the Malaysian debut of its Jaecoo J5 EV on 2 September.

Bookings opened last month with an estimated on-the-road price of RM125,000, though the company has not yet announced official pricing. The vehicle will be assembled in Malaysia under the CKD programme, the group said.

The J5 EV is the brand’s first battery-only model for the domestic market. It follows locally assembled electric vehicles such as the Omoda E5, iCaur 03 and iCaur V23 from the Chery Group stable.

At 4.38 m long, 1.86 m wide and 1.65 m tall, the five-seater SUV is larger than sub-compact SUVs like the BYD Atto 2 and smaller than crossover models such as the Proton e.MAS 7.

It uses a 155 kW front-wheel-drive electric motor producing 288 Nm of torque and a 58.9 kWh CATL LFP battery that delivers a WLTP range of 402 km.

The Malaysian variant comes with an 11 kW three-phase AC onboard charger and supports up to 130 kW DC fast charging, restoring 30% to 80% in about 28 minutes.

Standard equipment includes level 2+ ADAS, a 540-degree surround-view camera, an 8.88-inch digital instrument cluster, a 13.2-inch infotainment screen and V2L capability.

The SUV also offers ventilated front seats, pet- and camping-specific modes, synthetic leather upholstery and 18-inch aero wheels with Giti GitiControl P10 235/55 tyres.
