A civilian was injured after being shot near Zoo Johor in Johor Bahru this evening, with police confirming the incident involved officers and an unidentified driver.

Market Impact

Johor police chief Datuk Ab Rahaman Arsad confirmed the shooting occurred around 2pm on Jalan Gertak Merah, near the zoo. "I confirm there was a shooting involving a police officer and a civilian who was injured," he told Harian Metro. "An investigation at the scene is ongoing."

The victim, believed to be the driver of a car, was later taken to Hospital Sultanah Aminah for treatment. A witness, who declined to be named, said they heard two gunshots followed by an explosion. "I asked others if that was gunfire. Then I heard a loud bang, and the car crashed into a parked vehicle," the witness said.

Police have cordoned off the area, and the suspect vehicle remains at the scene. Ab Rahaman is expected to hold a press conference tomorrow regarding the incident.
