SEREMBAN – Police are investigating the death of a 14‑year‑old male student in a school hostel in Kuala Pilah district after allegations he was beaten for suspected vaping, Negeri Sembilan police chief Datuk Alzafny Ahmad said on 27 September 2026.

Market Impact

The case raises concerns about possible bullying in school residences and highlights the need for clarity on whether the student’s death resulted from peer violence, Alzafny added.

Alzafny said his office had received information about the allegation and that the investigation was continuing to determine whether bullying was involved. He was quoted as saying, “Siasatan masih dijalankan sama ada wujud buli atau tidak sebelum ini.” He also noted that the autopsy report had not yet been obtained because police were still awaiting the chemistry department’s findings.

According to Alzafny, media reports the previous day indicated that preliminary investigation findings suggested the incident was believed to have originated from the student’s action violating school rules. As a result, a Form Four student is believed to have reprimanded and ‘menghukum’ the victim in connection with the offence.

By yesterday, police had recorded statements from 21 individuals, including students, teachers and the victim’s parents, to assist the investigation. A 16‑year‑old student had been remanded for six days to help with the probe under Section 302 of the Penal Code.

The investigation remains pending the chemistry report, which will determine the cause of death and inform any further police action.

Authorities will continue to interview witnesses and examine evidence as they work to establish whether bullying contributed to the tragedy.
