Touch ‘n Go rolls out 10 Enhanced RFID lanes by year-end to accelerate Malaysia’s MLFF tolling transition

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 30 — Touch ‘n Go Sdn Bhd is deploying 10 additional Enhanced Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) lanes by December to bolster Malaysia’s shift toward a Multi-Lane Fast Flow (MLFF) tolling system, marking a key step in the government’s push for barrier-free highways.

The expansion, announced during the company’s 30th anniversary celebrations, underscores its role as a technology partner in the national mobility transformation, with the new lanes designed to validate and refine the MLFF model before full-scale implementation. The move follows the successful trial of two existing Enhanced RFID lanes, which combine dual RFID antennas with Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras to enhance security and transaction accuracy.

The 10 new lanes will be distributed across five major highways, with two lanes each installed at the Putrajaya Toll Plaza (Maju Expressway), Sungai Ramal Toll Plaza (SILK), Bukit Raja Toll Plaza (Grand Sepadu Highway), and Bukit Jelutong Toll Plaza (Guthrie Corridor Expressway). An additional two lanes—one each—will be added at the Sungai Long and Ampang Toll Plazas (East Klang Valley Expressway).

Motorists will identify the lanes by a gold star symbol on signage, distinguishing them from conventional toll lanes.

Touch ‘n Go’s Chief Operations Officer, Liza Woon Yin Yin, told Bernama that the Enhanced RFID lanes integrate Titan Flow technology, a proprietary AI and machine-learning-driven system that improves vehicle detection and lane efficiency. The dual-antennas and ANPR setup ensures seamless transactions even at higher speeds, aligning with the MLFF’s goal of reducing congestion through automated, high-throughput tolling.

“It’s an enhanced technology with two RFID antennas, and together with the ANPR camera in the middle to support the front and also the back as a secondary RFID to strengthen the security and also the accuracy,” Woon said during a media briefing at the MyASEAN Roads & Traffic Tech Expo (MyARTTE).

She added that the upgraded lanes would deliver a “smoother drive-through experience” comparable to the eventual MLFF system, which aims to eliminate physical toll barriers entirely.

The deployment follows the operational launch of two pilot Enhanced RFID lanes—one at the Ampang-bound Dato Keramat toll plaza (AKLEH) and another at the Putrajaya-bound Putrajaya toll plaza (MEX)—both of which have demonstrated the technology’s reliability. Woon emphasized that the expansion was part of Touch ‘n Go’s commitment to supporting the government’s barrier-free tolling initiative, leveraging its 30 years of experience in electronic toll collection.

The company’s statement highlighted that the new lanes would operate under a multi-technology approach, merging RFID with AI-driven analytics to optimize traffic flow and transaction processing. This aligns with broader industry efforts to modernize Malaysia’s toll infrastructure, reducing delays and improving user experience ahead of the MLFF’s phased rollout.

Touch ‘n Go’s participation in the MyARTTE expo also showcased its broader mobility innovations, including the Single Lane Fast Flow (SLFF) e-RFID system and a Gold Star VR experience demonstrating future tolling scenarios. The company’s pavilion, themed “Future of Malaysia’s Mobility, Built on 30 Years of Trust,” underscored its position as a key enabler of Malaysia’s smart transportation ecosystem.

The 10 new lanes are expected to be fully operational by the end of 2026, with Touch ‘n Go stating that the gold-star-marked lanes would serve as a bridge between current tolling methods and the upcoming MLFF system. The company did not provide a timeline for the full MLFF transition but reiterated its readiness to scale the technology nationwide.
