The Ministry of Public Works sent 16 water tankers and 105 public hydrants to Central Java to meet urgent clean-water needs during the drought, the ministry said on Thursday.

Market Impact

Public Works Minister Dody Hanggodo said water is critical for sustainable development, so drought response must be fast, measured and coordinated to keep households supplied and farms productive. “In an uncertain world, water is the foundation of sustainable development,” he said in a statement.

The Central Java Public Works office is deploying the equipment in stages through the provincial disaster agency, based on local need. Nine tankers and 12 hydrants have already been sent to Jepara, Sragen, Tegal, Cilacap, Blora, Banjarnegara and Pekalongan. Tegal and Banjarnegara each received two tankers.

The 12 hydrants went to Pemalang (two), Banjarnegara (eight) and Cilacap (two). In Banjarnegara, crews delivered water to 11 villages including Kempyang hamlet and Jalatunda village, reaching 669 households (4,638 people) with 108,000 litres.

Drought has spread to at least 24 regencies and cities and threatens 32 more, affecting roughly 184,000 residents who struggle to obtain clean water, according to the Central Java Public Works office’s August report. The ministry said it will keep coordinating with local governments to move available supplies quickly and maintain readiness as the dry spell continues.
