Men’s doubles pair Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun beat China’s Huang Di-Liu Yang 21-14, 21-15 on Tuesday at the World Championships in New Delhi to secure Malaysia’s men’s doubles quarter-final berth.

The 36-minute win at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium marked the first outing for Wei Chong-Kai Wun since both players were paired with new partners in mid-July, according to the Badminton Association of Malaysia.

Their victory also sets up a Malaysia-only quarter-final clash with Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik, the pair’s former partner. Wei Chong had teamed with Wooi Yik in multiple events earlier this year, including the Malaysia Open semi-finals and the Singapore Open quarter-finals.

In the women’s singles, Wong Ling Ching began her campaign with a 21-10, 21-12 win over Peru’s Namie Miyahira. She advances to face Japan’s second seed Akane Yamaguchi in the next round.

The World Championships run-through carries extra significance ahead of the Commonwealth Games, where Malaysia will target more medals in badminton.
