Police are probing a viral video showing headscarves allegedly bearing incomplete Jalur Gemilang patterns being sold at a Subang Jaya supermarket.

Market Impact

Subang Jaya OCPD Assistant Commissioner Wan Azlan Wan Mamat said authorities received a report at 4.49pm on Aug 29 after the video circulated online. He told Bernama that initial checks found only some of the scarves, supplied to the store, carried incorrect patterns.

“The supermarket immediately removed and isolated the affected items from sale to stop further distribution,” he said in a statement on Aug 30.

Police are investigating under Section 5 of the Emblems and Names (Prevention of Improper Use) Act 1963 for non-compliant use of the Jalur Gemilang and Section 504 of the Penal Code for intentional insult likely to provoke a breach of the peace.

ACP Wan Azlan urged the public not to speculate and to report any information to the Subang Jaya District Police Headquarters at 03-7862 7100.
