A 66-year-old man and an eight-year-old boy died while two others suffered breathing difficulties after a three-storey shophouse caught fire in Klang, Selangor, on Wednesday.

According to the Selangor Fire and Rescue Department’s operations deputy director Ashrul Riezal Asbar, the victims were found in separate toilets on the second floor after the blaze was put out at 6:33 pm. Firefighters received the emergency call at 5:51 pm.

“The two male victims were pronounced dead by the Ministry of Health’s medical team, while the other two were rescued by civilians and sent to Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital in Klang for treatment,” Ashrul Riezal said in a statement on Wednesday night.

The bodies were handed to the Royal Malaysia Police forensic unit at 10:15 pm for further investigation. Firefighters from the Pelabuhan Klang and Andalas stations completed the operation at 10:05 pm with 18 personnel deployed.
