Kuala Lumpur, 22 August 2026 – Indonesia’s Ministry of Trade, in collaboration with the West Java provincial government, has exported 10 metric tons of green coffee beans produced by Java Halu Coffee to the United Kingdom.

Market Impact

The shipment, valued at USD 155,000 (approximately Rp2.64 billion), was flagged off from Bandung Barat Regency, West Java, on 18 August.

Fajarini Puntodewi, Director-General of National Export Development at the Ministry of Trade, highlighted the export as evidence of Indonesia’s coffee potential in global markets. She emphasized the role of collaboration among micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), central and regional governments, and other stakeholders in fostering export ecosystems. “This export milestone demonstrates that MSMEs, with the right support and guidance, can penetrate international markets,” Puntodewi said.

“We hope this initiative will inspire other coffee MSMEs in West Java and across Indonesia to expand globally.”

West Java’s coffee industry has seen growing recognition, with Java Halu Coffee now exported to markets including the Middle East, Japan, Australia, South Korea, Turkey, the UK, and the US. The company’s export journey began in 2019, supported by consistent quality improvement and multi-stakeholder collaboration.

The Ministry of Trade has facilitated Java Halu Coffee’s participation in international exhibitions, including the 2023 World of Coffee in Athens, Greece, and the International Coffee & Chocolate Exhibition in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

West Java Deputy Governor Erwan Setiawan acknowledged the export as proof of the region’s coffee quality and potential. “This shipment underscores that West Java’s coffee can compete in global markets,” he said. “The provincial government will continue to support local businesses in promoting West Java’s premium products internationally.”

Java Halu Coffee Director Rani Mayasari expressed gratitude for the support from Bandung Barat’s local government, West Java provincial authorities, Bank Indonesia, and the Ministry of Trade. “This is a proud moment for us, as we contribute to national foreign exchange earnings and West Java’s economy,” she said.

The event was attended by senior officials, including Miftah Farid (Director of Primary Product Export Development at the Ministry of Trade), Bayu Nugroho (Director of Market and Export Information Development), Asep Ismail (West Bandung Regent), and Junanto Herdiawan (Bank Indonesia West Java Representative).

Malaysia’s Market Impact and Sector Insights Indonesia’s push to expand coffee exports aligns with broader efforts to enhance value-added products and strengthen branding in global markets. Puntodewi stressed the need to move beyond raw bean exports, advocating for higher-value coffee products and stronger Indonesian coffee identity abroad. “Indonesia has diverse, high-quality coffee with unique characteristics. We must leverage these strengths to create differentiated products and build a stronger brand that commands higher prices,” she said.

Improving supply chain efficiency and productivity is equally critical. Puntodewi noted the importance of connecting farmers, processors, aggregators, roasters, exporters, and international buyers in a more streamlined manner. Traceability and sustainability practices are increasingly demanded by global buyers, she added.

For Malaysia, a key coffee importer in Southeast Asia, Indonesia’s export growth could influence market dynamics. While Malaysia primarily sources coffee from regional suppliers, including Vietnam and Thailand, higher-value Indonesian coffee may attract Malaysian roasters and traders seeking premium beans. However, competition in traditional markets like the UK and US could intensify as Indonesian exporters diversify their portfolios.

Outlook Indonesia’s coffee export strategy, exemplified by Java Halu Coffee’s success, signals a long-term commitment to positioning its coffee sector as a global player. For West Java, this export milestone serves as a catalyst for other local producers to enhance quality and explore international opportunities.

As Indonesia aims to reduce reliance on raw bean exports, the shift toward branded, high-value coffee products may reshape its trade landscape. Industry stakeholders will closely monitor the impact of these initiatives on Indonesia’s export revenue and global coffee market positioning.
