MBM Resources Bhd appointed En Rizal Mohd Zin as Group Chief Executive Officer effective Jan 2, 2024, the company said in a filing to Bursa Malaysia.

Market Impact

En Rizal, 48, replaces Annie Chin Tze Fui, who stepped into the acting role in late 2020 after Datuk Seri Ismee Ismail retired. En Rizal joins from MNRB Holdings Bhd, where he was Group Chief Strategy Officer, and earlier spent six years at Ekuiti Nasional Bhd as a Director of Investments. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Engineering and a Master’s in Engineering from the University of Cambridge.

The Group said the appointment strengthens its push to become Malaysia’s leading automotive group. En Rizal’s background in corporate strategy planning, transformation and mergers and acquisitions aligns with MBMR’s plan to expand across motor trading and automotive parts manufacturing.

MBMR operates two core businesses: Motor Trading, which distributes brands such as Daihatsu, Hino, Perodua, Volvo and Volkswagen; and Automotive Parts Manufacturing, which makes steel wheels, safety restraint products and noise, vibration and harshness components. The Group supplies parts to all major car manufacturers in Malaysia and serves every segment from compact cars to luxury vehicles and commercial fleets.

En Rizal’s appointment follows the retirement of Datuk Seri Ismee Ismail, who led MBMR from 2017 until his departure in December 2023. The Board said it expects En Rizal to build on the Group’s diversification strategy while managing margin pressures in both divisions.

MBMR’s Motor Trading segment distributes vehicles under international and local brands, while its Automotive Parts Manufacturing arm produces components sold to original equipment manufacturers. The Group has manufacturing sites in Malaysia and regional distribution networks.

The Board welcomed En Rizal and said it looks forward to working with him to continue MBMR’s growth trajectory. The company did not disclose further details on the transition.

MBMR’s shares ended unchanged at 83 sen in Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday. The Group last paid a dividend of 1.5 sen per share in its financial year ended June 30, 2023.

Analysts said they will watch for En Rizal’s first strategic update, expected within the next six months, to gauge how he plans to position MBMR amid rising competition in vehicle distribution and parts supply.

En Rizal’s predecessor, Annie Chin, remains Group Chief Financial Officer and retains responsibility for the Group’s financial functions. She was appointed CFO in September 2020 after serving as Group Financial Controller and briefly as acting CEO from October 2020 to February 2021.

MBMR’s Board includes Low Hin Choong, a member of the Risk Management and Sustainability Committee, and Ng Seng Kong, a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants and the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants. Wong Fay Lee chairs the Risk Management and Sustainability Committee and also serves as Chairman of Federal Auto Holdings Bhd.
