Malaysia’s Producer Price Index jumped 9.7% year-on-year in July, the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) said on Friday.

The index had climbed 9.2% in June, according to the DOSM’s PPI Local Production report for July 2026. All major sectors recorded higher prices for a fourth straight month.

The mining sector led gains with a 30.5% increase, driven by a 39.6% rise in crude petroleum extraction. The manufacturing sector rose 8.2%, helped by a 30.4% gain in coke and refined petroleum products and a 10.5% advance in computer, electronic and optical products. Utilities also climbed: water supply prices gained 10.2% and electricity and gas 6.7%.

On a month-on-month basis, the index edged up 0.7% after a 0.6% rise in June. Mining rebounded 1.1%, manufacturing gained 0.8% and computer, electronic and optical products rose 1.5%. Agriculture, forestry and fishing increased 0.7%, while electricity and gas rose 0.1%. Water supply fell 1.4%.

Across processing stages, crude materials jumped 24.1%, intermediate goods climbed 8.4% and finished goods rose 2.5%.
