Mercedes-Benz Launches CLA 250+ EV in Malaysia at RM274,888, Offering 792km Range

Market Impact

KUALA LUMPUR — Mercedes-Benz has officially launched the CLA 250+ EV in Malaysia, marking the first all-new electric vehicle (EV) from the German automaker in the country since the G-Class EV debuted in June 2023. Initially previewed in January 2024 with an estimated price of RM295,888, the CLA 250+ EV is now available at a starting price of RM274,888, approximately RM21,000 lower than the original projection.

The CLA 250+ EV is positioned as a premium electric sedan, featuring an 85kWh NMC battery paired with a 200kW (268hp) rear-wheel-drive electric motor, delivering 335Nm of torque. The vehicle accelerates from 0 to 100km/h in 6.7 seconds and has a top speed of 210km/h. A key highlight is its 800V architecture, enabling DC fast charging at up to 325kW, allowing the battery to charge from 10% to 80% in just 22 minutes.

Mercedes-Benz Malaysia has confirmed that the Malaysia-spec model will not support 400V charging, relying instead on the country’s growing network of 800V-compatible chargers, which account for over 60% of public EV charging stations.

The CLA 250+ EV boasts a WLTP-certified range of up to 792km and an energy consumption rate as low as 12.2kWh per 100km. It includes a 2-speed gearbox, with the first gear optimized for urban acceleration and efficiency, while the second gear enhances high-speed performance. The vehicle also features a 11kW onboard AC charger, requiring approximately nine hours for a full charge using a 3-phase 11kW AC charger.

In terms of features, the CLA 250+ EV comes standard with a 4-year unlimited mileage warranty and an 8-year/160,000km battery warranty. Customers opting for the Agility+ financing plan can acquire the vehicle from RM2,988 per month, which includes an additional one-year vehicle warranty and four Compact Service Packages. All buyers receive a free AC wallbox, though installation costs are not covered.

The Malaysia-spec model is equipped with MBUX Superscreen, comprising a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 14-inch central infotainment display, and a 14-inch front passenger display. The vehicle also introduces a front trunk (frunk) with 101 liters of storage space, alongside a 405-liter rear boot. Exterior color options include Aqua-mint, Polar White, High-tech Silver, Cosmos Black, and Sheer Blue, with additional Manufaktur colors such as Patagonia Red Metallic and Alpine Grey Solid available for RM6,000 extra.

Mercedes-Benz Malaysia has integrated the MB.Charge Public service, allowing CLA 250+ EV owners to locate and activate compatible chargers via the MBUX system or Mercedes-Benz App. The company estimates that over 60% of Malaysia’s public EV chargers support 800V charging, reducing concerns over compatibility.

The CLA 250+ EV’s sleek design, highlighted by an animated LED star grille and a panoramic glass roof with a drag coefficient of 0.21, further enhances its appeal in the luxury EV segment.

The launch of the CLA 250+ EV underscores Mercedes-Benz’s commitment to expanding its electric vehicle lineup in Malaysia, following the G-Class EV’s introduction last year. With competitive pricing, advanced charging capabilities, and a focus on premium features, the CLA 250+ EV is poised to strengthen Mercedes-Benz’s position in Malaysia’s growing EV market. Further details on market response and sales performance are not yet available.
