The Indonesian Transport Ministry told the public on Tuesday to verify that buses and other vehicles have valid licences and roadworthiness certificates before use.

Director-General of Land Transport Aan Suhanan said owners must check the expiry dates of periodic inspection results, especially for high-occupancy buses. “We urge passengers to confirm a bus has valid permits and roadworthiness before boarding,” he told a press briefing in Jakarta.

Aan said inspectors continue to find buses operating with lapsed documentation. Operators that breach the rules face enforcement action, he added. The ministry also advised the public to check vehicle status via the Spionam or Mitra Darat apps by entering the licence-plate number.

He reminded operators to ensure that every bus is roadworthy and that drivers are medically fit and adequately rested. “Safe travel is a shared responsibility,” Aan said.
