Bursa Malaysia’s FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) rose 0.82 point to 1,713.30 at midday as investors balanced profit-taking in heavyweights against the lift from Malaysia’s 2025 nominal GDP growth.

Market Impact

The Department of Statistics Malaysia reported the economy expanded 4.8% to RM2.03 trillion last year, helping lift sentiment after regional peers lagged. At 12.30 pm, the index had gained 0.05% from yesterday’s close of 1,712.48, having opened 1.91 points higher at 1,714.39.

Volatility persisted. The gauge swung between an intraday low of 1,710.79 and a high of 1,720.59 before steadying, with buying and selling unevenly distributed across blue chips.

The broader market painted a weaker picture. Decliners outnumbered gainers 451 to 417, while 557 counters were unchanged, 1,342 untraded and 48 suspended. Turnover reached 1.63 billion shares worth RM1.01 billion.

Among heavyweights, Tenaga Nasional led gainers with a 10-sen rise to RM14.56, while Maybank and Public Bank each fell four sen to RM10.86 and RM5.15. CIMB added two sen to RM7.78 and IHH Healthcare held steady at RM8.34.

Momentum tilted toward mid- and small-caps. Nestle led the top gainers with a RM3.54 jump to RM97.20, followed by Kuala Lumpur Kepong’s 32-sen rise to RM20.86. Dufu Technology surged 18 sen to RM2.61, while UMS Integration slumped 40 sen to RM6.82 to top the losers.

Sector performance diverged. The Plantation Index gained 26.16 points to 9,257.75, and the Industrial Products and Services Index edged up 0.93 point to 186.40. Financial Services fell 47.19 points to 20,207.27, and Energy slipped 1.88 points to 761.54.

The FBM Emas Index added 10.55 points to 12,652.27, while the FBMT 100 Index gained 10.53 points to 12,486.92. The FBM Mid 70 Index rose 34.78 points to 17,936.64, and the FBM ACE Index climbed 9.65 points to 4,895.94.
