A video of adaptive skateboarding contest Wheels for Wheels FrumpFest has gone viral on Instagram and TikTok for showing off the skills of the talented skaters with disabilities who took part in the competition.

Market Impact

The video has since accumulated over 6 million views and hundreds of thousands of likes in a week, with numerous commenters praising the skaters' abilities and enthusiasm.

Anthony Ferraro, a blind Paralympic athlete and content creator, recorded the video that showcased the Wheels for Wheels FrumpFest adaptive skate contest, which he participated in. The contest took place in New Milford, Connecticut, on September 12th and attracted many participants from different parts of the country. It is a collaboration between skateboard company Be Easy, nonprofit Wheels for Wheels and One Legacy Skateboards, an adaptive skateboard company.

The contest's goal is to raise funds for para-athletes. The viral video starts off with the contestants telling the camera what their disabilities are in a funny, lighthearted way. Two of the contestants, including Ferraro, are blind, while another two only have one leg. Another contestant yells that he has autism, and a different contestant says that his hands are broken.

One then states he is missing his foot, another adds he has "crazy legs," and the last contestant is missing both hands and a leg. "Let's skate a contest!" they all yell enthusiastically before beginning. Then, each of them takes a turn skateboarding in the skate park, showing off their various tricks and skills. Ferraro is up first, and the video shows him performing a few tricks while using his cane to guide himself.

Then, the video shows short clips of the other contestants performing tricks on different parts of the park. "Under his fake leg is a real one," Ferraro said of Oscar Loreto Jr., a one-legged skateboarder who is also part of One Legacy Skateboards, in between turns, to which Loreto Jr. replied, "Anthony can see." The video then shows more clips of the contestants performing, showcasing their best tricks and flips.

The other contestants were Ernie Ibarra, Andy Hernandez, Chris Gentry, Dalton Odom and Harley Meagley. Ferraro faces the camera and jokingly asks, "Wait, what did they do?" Then, the video shows all of the contestants saying "One Legacy!" "Raising awareness that blind and disabled skaters exist is one of my favorite things to do," Ferraro wrote in the caption of his video, and added that, to him, FrumpFest is more than a contest.

"It's about coming together and learning that, even though it feels like we're all alone at times, there are so many people who live with things that make it difficult to do things the way it seems everyone else is doing it." "We always find a way," Ferraro continued, "and skateboarding is a great example to just get up and send it no matter what you're doing." He concluded that "even if your thing is sewing or like making your bed, you gotta do something, and that's what keeps you going." The comments on the post were overwhelmingly positive, praising the contestants' skills, sharing their enthusiasm and laughing along with their jokes.
