Traffic Diversions Planned for Malaysia’s President’s State Address in Jakarta

Market Impact

JAKARTA (Reuters) — Indonesia’s traffic police in Jakarta are preparing situational traffic diversion schemes around the Parliament Complex in Senayan, Central Jakarta, ahead of President Prabowo Subianto’s State Address scheduled for Friday.

Deputy Director of Traffic (Wadirlantas) of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, AKBP Arif Fazlurrahman, urged road users to anticipate potential congestion in the Senayan area from early morning. The State Address is set to begin at 08:00 WIB and conclude later in the day.

Arif explained that traffic engineering and diversion measures around Senayan will be implemented situationally, depending on vehicle volume and real-time conditions. To maintain smooth mobility, police have advised road users to adjust departure times and use alternative routes.

“Road users are requested to adjust travel schedules, utilise alternative routes, and most importantly, comply with instructions from our officers on the ground for mutual safety and smooth traffic flow,” Arif said in Jakarta on Friday.

He also emphasised the importance of road safety and adherence to traffic regulations for all road users.

To assist the public in planning their journeys, the Jakarta Metropolitan Police’s traffic directorate will provide regular updates on traffic conditions via its official social media channels.

Meanwhile, the Secretariat-General of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR RI) confirmed that preparations for the 2026 Annual Session of the MPR, involving joint sittings of the House of Representatives (DPR RI) and Regional Representative Council (DPD RI), have been meticulously coordinated and optimised.

Deputy Secretary-General for Administration of the MPR RI, Heri Herawan, stated that this year’s Annual Session, marking the 81st anniversary of Indonesia’s Independence, prioritises strong synergy and collaboration among state institutions.

“All working units within the Secretariat-General of the MPR RI have conducted thorough preparations for the Annual Session and the 2026 joint sittings,” Heri said at the parliamentary complex in Jakarta on Thursday (13/8).

Details not yet available regarding the expected impact on Malaysia, including potential travel disruptions or economic effects, as the event is taking place in Indonesia.

The traffic management measures reflect Indonesia’s ongoing efforts to balance national events with urban mobility, particularly in high-traffic areas such as Senayan. The use of real-time updates and situational traffic engineering underscores the adaptive approach being adopted by authorities.

Indonesia’s traffic police have not disclosed specific contingency plans for international travellers or cross-border transport, though regional observers note that major events in Jakarta often lead to temporary adjustments in regional air and land connectivity.

The State Address, a key constitutional event, is expected to outline government priorities for the coming year, potentially influencing investor sentiment and policy direction in Southeast Asia’s largest economy.

As of now, no official statements have been issued by Malaysian authorities regarding contingency measures for travellers or businesses operating between Malaysia and Indonesia during the event.
