Hong Kong actress Janice Pang Cheung Ling, 33, has left TVB after a nine-year run and taken up full-time taxi driving, saying the job gives her a steadier income than acting.

Market Impact

In an interview with HK01, Pang said she takes home up to HK$2,000 (RM1,040) a day after paying taxi rental and fuel, more than her acting earnings. She called the change “easier to make a living.”

The extra cash has let her buy clothes she could not afford before. “I used to be thrifty and happy just to afford two meals a day,” she said. “Now I can dress up.”

Pang started acting in 2017 after finishing TVB’s training course and starred in shows such as Come Home Love: Lo And Behold and Forensic Heroes IV. Her TVB contract expired last month. “There’s a certain period in life for chasing your dreams,” she told HK01. “Once you reach a certain age, you must face reality.”

She enjoys driving and does not mind the long hours. “The more you work, the more you earn,” Pang said. Passengers rarely recognise her because she usually wears a mask, but she thanks those who do.

Pang is not quitting showbiz entirely. “For now, I’m focusing on making money,” she said. “If there’s an opportunity to act, things will naturally fall into place.”
