NVIDIA Unveils Jetson Orin Nano 2 to Accelerate Edge AI in Robotics for Malaysian Developers

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 25 — NVIDIA today introduced the Jetson Orin Nano 2, a compact robotics computer designed to bring advanced generative AI capabilities to entry-level edge devices. The new system is positioned to empower developers in Malaysia and across Southeast Asia to build autonomous systems such as home robots, delivery drones, and vision AI platforms with real-time reasoning and decision-making.

The Jetson Orin Nano 2 delivers 78 trillion operations per second (TOPS) of AI compute, 8GB of memory, and an 8-core Arm CPU, representing a significant performance leap over its predecessor. According to NVIDIA, the device achieves twice the inference performance of the Jetson Orin Nano Super while consuming 40% less power in 15-watt mode. This efficiency is critical for edge AI applications in energy-sensitive environments, including industrial inspection systems and autonomous service robots.

“Today’s small and medium frontier models have reached the accuracy of last year’s largest frontier models, unlocking real-time intelligence for edge devices,” said Deepu Talla, vice president of robotics and edge AI at NVIDIA. “The Jetson Orin Nano 2 computer puts that breakthrough within reach of millions of developers, delivering the performance and energy efficiency needed for real-time reasoning at the edge.”

Among the early adopters are Cognex, Doosan Bobcat, and Matic Robots, each exploring the platform for next-generation applications. Wing, a drone delivery company under Alphabet, is evaluating the Jetson Orin Nano 2 to enhance real-time AI perception in its autonomous delivery fleet. “Drone delivery depends on AI that can enable fast, reliable understanding of the real world,” said Dinuka Abeywardena, head of perception at Wing. “We are exploring Jetson Orin Nano 2 to make our drones more responsive and energy-efficient, improving delivery speed and reliability.”

Matic Robots, a developer of home cleaning robots, is integrating the platform to enable conversational AI, gesture detection, and semantic mapping in its devices. “Home robots need to understand people, map spaces precisely, and clean autonomously in dynamic environments,” said Navneet Dalal, cofounder and CEO of Matic Robotics. “With Jetson Orin Nano 2, we can run state-of-the-art AI models at the edge in a compact platform built for real-time interaction and navigation.”

The Jetson Orin Nano 2 supports NVIDIA’s open software stack, including Jetson agent skills and optimized models such as NVIDIA Cosmos, Nemotron, Gemma 4, and Qwen 3. This enables developers to deploy large language models (LLMs) and vision-language models (VLMs) efficiently on edge devices, reducing latency and dependency on cloud connectivity.

Over 3 million developers globally are building on NVIDIA’s robotics platform. In Malaysia, local startups and research institutions are increasingly leveraging Jetson-based systems for smart manufacturing, agricultural automation, and urban mobility solutions. Industry partners such as AAEON, ADLINK, Advantech, and Seeed Studio are developing carrier boards, reference designs, and customized AI solutions to accelerate time-to-market for Malaysian enterprises.

The Jetson Orin Nano 2 module and developer kit are expected to be available in the first half of 2027, with pricing details to be announced closer to launch. NVIDIA emphasized that the platform is designed to lower the barrier to entry for edge AI, enabling small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to adopt advanced AI without significant infrastructure investments.

For Malaysia’s Industry 4.0 roadmap, the Jetson Orin Nano 2 could support initiatives in smart factories, autonomous logistics, and AI-driven inspection systems. Local universities and polytechnics, including those in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, and Johor, are already using NVIDIA Jetson platforms in robotics and AI research, suggesting strong potential for adoption.

Industry analysts view the launch as a strategic move to democratize AI at the edge. “The focus on energy efficiency and compact form factor aligns with Southeast Asia’s push for sustainable automation,” said a technology analyst based in Singapore. “Malaysian manufacturers looking to integrate AI into their operations will benefit from reduced power consumption and faster deployment cycles.”

NVIDIA’s announcement follows a broader trend of edge AI adoption in the region, with governments and corporations investing in digital transformation. The Jetson Orin Nano 2 is expected to complement existing NVIDIA platforms already in use across Malaysia’s electronics manufacturing, healthcare, and smart city projects.

Looking ahead, NVIDIA plans to expand its ecosystem in Southeast Asia through partnerships with local distributors and training programs. Developer workshops and hackathons are scheduled for early 2027 to familiarize Malaysian engineers with the new platform.
