PASIR MAS – Malaysia’s General Operations Force said on Sunday no militants or guerrillas from southern Thailand have crossed into Kelantan following coordinated bombings and violent attacks across three Thai provinces.

Market Impact

Senior Assistant Commissioner Ahmad Radzi Hussain, Southeast Brigade Commander of the GOF, said border security along the Malaysia-Thailand frontier is being tightened and front-line personnel remain on high alert for any infiltration attempts.

“We are constantly reinforcing border controls and reminding our front-line teams to stay vigilant,” Ahmad Radzi told reporters. “We will act swiftly if there are any incidents or attempts to enter.”

He said the only persistent border issue remains the entry of undocumented migrants.

Ahmad Radzi highlighted strong cooperation with Thai authorities, noting that the Regional Border Committee (RBC) is an effective platform for intelligence-sharing and coordination. The RBC meeting is scheduled for Sept 1–3 in Hat Yai, Thailand and will be attended by Kelantan police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat, Kedah police chief Datuk Adzli Abu Shah, the acting Perlis police chief, Ahmad Radzi and Armed Forces representatives.

“We maintain a continuous exchange of intelligence and our cooperation with Thai authorities has always been solid,” he said.

The committee operates through six working groups covering border management, land affairs, disaster response and intelligence.

Datuk Mohd Yusoff confirmed that no Malaysians were caught in the bombings and violence that erupted across Narathiwat, Pattani and Yala provinces on Saturday night. He advised Malaysians to remain cautious and postpone non-essential travel to Thailand until the situation stabilises.

Narathiwat province had been placed under a curfew from 10.15pm on Saturday until 5am on Sunday following reports of more than 50 bombings, arson targeting local government offices and tyre-burning.

The explosions rattled border communities, including Kampung Lubok Gong and Kampung Tersang in Rantau Panjang.
